Headteacher's Welcome Message
I am delighted to welcome you to our school webite.
Ysgol Bryn Collen is a school of which we are immensely proud; our pupils are incredibly independent, confident and ambitious. Our children are enthusiastically supported by a talented and committed staff.
This school is a place of awe and wonder, where the outdoors features prominently in our curriculum. Our children are inspired by the organic nature of the education we provide. ‘Although they come home muddy, they are full of smiles and stories to tell about their day. The children experience a very unique education at Ysgol Bryn Collen, one that doesn’t see them cooped up in classrooms and as a result our free-range children are thriving!’ We value all members of our inclusive community and all children are recognised for the unique contribution that they each bring.
We seek to provide a safe and happy environment within which our pupils can thrive; this features a nurturing environment, excellent teaching and a powerful extra-curricular programme which is designed to enable each pupil to live his or her life to the full, both whilst at school and afterwards.
Every member of the Ysgol Bryn Collen staff has a deep commitment to our pupils, and this ethos contributes to high standards of well-being and enhanced progress, which results in learners who are equipped for life and all the challenges that it may bring.
Ysgol Bryn Collen is placed in a remarkable setting, which enables us to make exceptional all-round provision for our pupils, and these are complemented by our location. We also enjoy the benefits of being a school in Llangollen, which provides both a stunning vista and ready opportunities for forest school, adventurous outdoor education and developing learners’ citizenship through work in the community.
The range of extra-curricular opportunities for pupils is extensive and of high quality: it includes Music, Performing Arts, a thriving Urdd creative and sporting programme, bespoke sports clubs provided by specialist teachers, and additional academic clubs to support the core subjects. Added to this is a rich and proud history of sporting success.
The school can best be judged by meeting our pupils, who are invariably well-mannered, kind, respectful, well-educated, hardworking, excellent company and good fun.
We warmly invite you to see for yourself – but you might want to bring your wellies!
I look forward to welcoming you to our happy and vibrant school,
Miss Lisa Howden
